Senator Douglas, during his visit to this place had an interview with Reschid Pacha the present Minister of Foreign Affairs and late Grand Vizier. Reschid Pacha is now at the head of the Sultan's ministry, and directs the present rather difficult foreign affairs of the Empire. The Senator (Young America) expressed himself as much gratified with the interview, and formed a high estimate of the character and attributes of the Pacha. He assured Reschid Pacha that American sympathies were all warmly in favor of Turkey. In her present difference with Russia, and that the people of his country regarded her cause as a most just one.
In reply, the Minister expressed his thanks to Senator Douglas. The agent of the Porte, who visited the United States some years ago, said that the Sultan and his government were much gratified by the manner in which he had been received.
