On Saturday nine coal heavers were tried at the Old Bailey, viz. James Murphy, James Dogan, Thomas Carnan, otherwise Carne, John Cotelle, Thomas Davis, James Hammond, Hugh Henley, Michael Doyle, and Thomas Farmer, otherwise Terrible: the first for the wilful murder of John Beattie, a sailor, by striking him with a cutlass on the head, and the other eight for aiding and assisting him in committing the said murder: Murphy and Dogan were found guilty, and received sentence immediately to be executed this day, and their bodies to be dissected, &c. The others were acquitted. The trial lasted the whole day.
