Full Text

On Thursday the Marshal of the admiralty, in attempting to seize a sloop under sail (libelled for seamen's wages) commanded by one Carswell, was opposed in the execution of his office, by the daring and piratical conduct of the crew, who paraded armed on the quarter deck, and bid defiance to our laws. Upon this occasion, he was immediately assisted by Capt. d'Auvergne of the British Packet, who manned two boats, well armed, and, with the Marshal, gave chase to her; she was luckily overtaken near the Hook, and conducted up to town. The crew, on the approach of the boats, made their escape to the Long Island shore. Too much credit cannot be given to Capt. d'Auvergne for his manly and determined conduct in support of our laws, nor to the men in the execution of their orders.
