DEMOCRATIC MEETING ON FORT HILL.

The Democrats of the several Wards in this city, held a great mass meeting on Fort Hill last evening, which more than equaled, in point of numbers and spirit, the meeting formerly held at the same place by the friends of Gen. Harrison. Indeed, we do not see but the democrats can raise the popular steam as well as the Whigs, if they only set about it.

The Democrats first assembled, last evening, at their Reading Room in Devonshire street, and proceeded from thence to Fort Hill, in a body, attended by an excellent band of music. They marched up the hill to the tune of 'the Camp bells are ringing!' and were received by the vast multitude which were already collected on the ground, with enthusiastic and soul-stirring shouts.

A raised platform or stage had been erected for the speakers, and was hung round with lanterns which threw their light over a large circle. The meeting was called to order by Edward Carr, Esq. who had been chosen, at the primary meeting, to preside over the general assembly. Three times three cheers were given for Martin Van Buren, and as many more for Marcus Morton, before Mr. Carr commenced his remarks; and he then addressed the people in a very earnest and forcible manner, stating the reasons which had induced the party to call this meeting, and the duty of the Democrats in the present position of public affairs. He was repeatedly cheered in the course of his remarks, and received a tremendous round of applause at the close.

A series of Resolutions, of a piquant and rather humorous character were then read, and adopted by acclamation.

Mr. Wright of Roxbury was next introduced to the people and addressed them at much length in an agreeable and interesting manner.

We left before Mr. Wright closed for the purpose of inserting this notice in this morning's papers, and did not learn the course of business afterwards. But it was understood that Mr. Wright was to be followed by Messrs. Barstow, Bancroft, Hallett, Rantoul and others, if time should permit.—The Democrats were all highly gratified with the success of their meeting; and seemed to enjoy themselves very much.
