Of Year's Homicides
Following a brief respite since the Fourth of July upsurge of homicides, when five Atlanta Negroes were knifed and shot fatally, the week-end sanguinary trend was again evidenced Sunday, when a stainless steel butcher-knife penetrated the heart of Ralph Jones, 27, of 81 Glenn St., S. E.
Patrolmen J. H. Langley and D. Wright were directed to the dying victim by Henry Jones, who stated that Ralph and Jake Jones, 24, of 615 Reed St., S. E. had been fighting at the corner of Reed and Glenn Sts. when Jake whipped out a butcher knife and mortally stabbed the victim. After receiving the fatal wound, Ralph is said to have reeled and tottered his way to 81 Glenn St. where he slumped across the doorsteps. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Grady hospital.
Officers found the knife on the porch of 615 Reed St., S. E., and arrested the suspect, Jake Jones at 167 Brandon St.
