They Nominate a Full List of Officers But Only Expect to Elect Hubbard President.
Had the democratic members of both branches of the court of common council been sure of electing every one of their nominees for the executive positions to be filled by the various bodies comprising the municipal organization, no larger attendance could have been had at the party's caucuses last evening. Every man was at his post and voted straight for the arranged slate.
The only chance that the democrats claim for an election of their officers is in the lower body, and that stands 18 to 18.
Alderman James A. Murray of the Third ward presided at the joint caucus, while the clerical part of the work was looked after by the genial gentleman from the Sixth, Councilman Henry Norris.
Alderman Corcoran nominated Sylvester Chase of the Register for assistant city clerk, Peter Carberry was named for sealer of weights and measures, Bernard McManus for page, and Alderman Rourke for member of the committee on finance. All the nominations were chosen by the secretary casting the ballot, there being but one in each case.
The councilmanic caucus named Eugene Hubbard for president and William Holloran for page. Francis Ryan of the Seventh ward was selected for member of the finance committee.
Mr. Hubbard thanked the caucus and said that if every man there would come to the meeting of the council next Monday evening he would be president of that body.
Moss Gompertz of the Seventh supplemented the candidate's remarks, advising all the members to come prepared to stay all night if necessary.
The aldermanic caucus was held in the anteroom. The choice of the caucus was John H. Moore of the Seventh ward for president and Bernard McManus for page.
E. A. Rourke was nominated for member of the committee on finance.
These names were presented at the aldermanic session.
