Full Text

PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.

Since the decease of the venerable CLINTON, there has been much conversation in private circles, and some notices in the public prints, on the selection of a proper person as his successor. The two gentlemen, of whom we have heard most said, are John Langdon of New-Hampshire, and Elbridge Gerry of Massachusetts. The choice, on whomsoever it may fall, will undoubtedly be from the Eastern States.

We have not heard any other Candidate seriously spoken of for the Presidency than JAMES MADISON. He unquestionably unites the sentiments of a large majority of the Republican Members of Congress; and, on this point, we believe many days will not have elapsed before all doubt will vanish, and deception cease.
