Construction Bids Asked By ADF
A call for bids, for the construction of a fishway around the main falls and for blasting of resting pools at the minor obstructions at the Paul's Lake watershed on Afognak Island, was made recently by The Alaska Department of Fisheries.
The Paul's Lake stream improvement project is the first one selected by C. L. Anderson, director of the ADF.
Detrick Cooter, engineer of the department, made surveys of Paul's Basin obstruction last year. It is hoped that the project will be completed this summer so that the present run of coho salmon in the lower stream will be able to ascend the fishways and populate the upper watershed.
Clint Stockley, watershed management biologist, started a red salmon stocking program on Afognak last summer and will continue it until the full cycle of this species has been planted.
