Cumberland River Drops Steadily

Nashville, Jan. 3.--The river gauge of the Cumberland stood at 55 feet here at 9:30 o'clock this morning, a drop of nine-tenths of a foot since 7 a. m. Sunday morning. The weather bureau predicts a fall of two to three feet during the next 24 hours.

With one building wrecked and another partly destroyed when undermined by the flood waters the condition of many of the older buildings along First and Second Avenues are considered unsafe.

Since the reported drowning of two men on Sunday and the narrow escape of five others, Sheriff Bob Briley has issued an order that all not engaged in rescue work stay out of all boats and keep away from the back waters and the river.
