Fisk Continues As Vast Repository

NASHVILLE (ANP) Directors of the Southern Education Reporting Service reversed a previous decision here last week and voted to declare Fisk University repository for the extensive SERS library collection.

Six years ago the board of directors named the Joint University Libraries of Nashville as the permanent site for the collection of newspaper clippings, books, periodicals, and microfilm about educational race relations since 1954.

The JUL is supported by Vanderbilt University, Peabody College, and Scarritt College.

Vanderbilt Chancellor Harvie Branscomb, a member of the board, recommended that the 1955 action be rescinded and that Fisk be given the library collection when the SERS work has been completed.

The collection is considered to be the best in the country on segregation-desegregation developments in public schools of the South.
