WASHINGTON—What practically amounts to a military alliance is pending between the United States and Mexico.
Negotiations have reached a stage when it can be announced that the United States will feed and clothe Mexico, if and when necessary, in case of war, and that there will be free exchange for use of naval and other military bases should hostilities arise that might endanger the security of either nation.
Discussions have been in progress for a considerable period, but it is only now that they have reached such a stage that definite announcement can be made that such an alliance is virtually assured.
The present government administration of Mexico shows a much more friendly front toward the United States than formerly and with the world unrest in which Mexico is frequently mentioned as focal point for attack by a foreign power that would assure a springboard assault upon the United States, it has become apparent that a close alliance would insure greater security for both.
