Kneeling as the attitude in prayer has ceased to be an exaction in the Methodist Church. Delegate Tindall, of Nebraska, is a believer in the devout kneeling form, and sought to correct the tendency of the latter day Methodists in departing from the ancient custom by introducing a resolution in the General Conference meeting in Chicago embracing the direction in the discipline. The Conference refused to declare "we are as much as ever in favor of observing" the kneeling attitude. On a vote the more easy leaning of the body toward the back of the pew in front was approved.
The General Conference on Wednesday decided to elect two bishops. The question of increasing the number of bishops precipitated an exciting discussion. Chief Justice Lore participated in the debate. He said: The question is "Are more bishops necessary?" I cannot forget our one work is to win souls, no matter what the additional work of the episcopacy is, I am willing to trust in the board we already have and in the Lord. If we cannot trust God or the episcopacy of the Methodist Church, I don't know on what foundation we stand. Don't let the Methodist Church get megacephalous.
