Full Text

Mr. ALBURTIS,

IN the Monitor of the 12th inst. I find myself paralleled in the same paragraph with Mr. Harper of Maryland, as two "precious patriots."

Now, Sir, as to myself I have no pretensions as yet to patriotism. This is a field preoccupied by my antagonists. Neither Sir have I any knowledge of Mr. Harper except that which arises from common fame, and his "oppugnation" to those co. conspicuously preoccupying the ground of patriotism at present. But, Sir I have some knowledge of Gen. James Wilkinson, and know what kind of patriotism he has been for many years exerting both in and out of the United States. That I should be abused is perfectly consonant to my expectations. But why Mr. Colvin should do it, I leave to himself to explain. Mr. Colvin may commit himself; but he will never commit any other person to the advantage of "Gen. Wilkinson. The suspicion of Washington is wide awake. This suspicion was not without cause, Gen. Wilkinson knows it, and so do I. On this subject Mr. Colvin had better embargo his press, or proclaim a non-intercourse without naming Wilkinson.

R. NEWMAN.
