During the year ending 31st August, there have been ninety-two days in which rain fell, thirty of which days were in June and July.
After a drought of several weeks, it commenced raining on Wednesday last, and continued until Saturday noon. The morning of that day set in with a very severe storm of wind and rain. Several chimneys were blown down, and a great number of trees torn up by the roots. We have heard of no personal injury about this neighborhood. We understand that a negro man belonging to a Mr. Christian in Buckingham, was killed by the falling of a tree. The river, which had fallen so much below its ordinary level as to put a stop to navigation, has again swollen to its usual height and business has resumed its wonted activity.
