From the National Gazette.

One of our late Paris papers contains a singular instance of conviction for murder. A married woman and her paramour of the name of Pugin were arraigned for the murder of the woman's husband. The latter had accompanied Pugin on a short journey in search of his wife, and was found dead in a field with his skull broken. On the trial no sufficient proof of the crime could be adduced, but the counsel of the accused appearing to exert himself particularly for the acquittal of the woman, Pugin, thought, he must have escaped, with her, conceived the idea that it was intended to make him alone responsible, and being determined that she should share his fate at all events, suddenly cried out—"that woman has twice attempted to poison her husband." The woman was immediately called up, and she at once confessed the murder. Both were convicted and sentenced to capital punishment.
