THE ONLEY COMMUNITY LEAGUE

The Onley Community League held its last meeting of the fiscal year at the Bijou Theatre, Wednesday evening, May 16th, and boasts of the largest attendance of the year. The business meeting was preceded by commencement exercises in the form of a pageant, "Ye Little Kingdom of Accomack," by the pupils of the seventh grade. The performance was both instructive and entertaining and those of us who saw and heard it learned many details about our County history that will always live in our memories. The children played their roles splendidly and the colonial boys and girls sang their songs and danced with such a spirit of the times they represented that we could almost imagine we were living in the "days of powdered wigs and hoop skirts."

Since this was the last meeting of the League for the year, the election of officers was in order. The same officers were retained and some additional committees were also appointed. We feel that we are greatly indebted to Mr. Strong, our president, for the splendid way in which he has led the league. Due to his

Thanks to the work and shrubs numbering almost three hundred pieces. which have been planted this Spring. The play-time of the children has also been made happier by the new play-ground equipment the League recently purchased.

We are proud of our year's record, but there are many other things to be accomplished, so next year we are hoping to enlist the services of every member of the Community, as well as those of the parents. Remember, folks, that this is a "Community" League. so let's keep it in mind all summer, and when the fall comes be prepared to give Mr. Strong our whole-hearted support in making Onley an ideal town in which to live.
