ANCHORAGE (P)—An Elmendorf air base airman and two young women were drowned in a boating mishap on the Kuskokwim River near Bethel.
Meager reports from the village said their small boat overturned as they tried to cross the river and that a second man in the boat was rescued.
The dead were Airman Glen D. Hand, Miss Eleanor Wells, a secretary at the Bethel hospital, and Miss Anastasia O'Reily, a nursing assistant at Marshal, a village north of Bethel. Both girls were about 21 years old.
Hand's wife, Ruby, lives at Richmond, Calif.
