Extract of a letter to a Member of Congress, dated Harrisburg, March 9, 1820.
"I have just time to inform you, before the mail closes, that I have just heard from the Lewistown convention. I send you the proceedings. You will find that there were eighty delegates present, and that they have unanimously nominated WM. Findlay, Esq as the Democratic Republican candidate for Governor. It was also unanimously resolved, that the Electors of President and Vice President of the United States give their undivided support to James Monroe for President, and Daniel D. Tompkins for Vice President; and that, in case Daniel D. Tompkins should decline a re-election to the office of Vice President, then the Convention earnestly recommend Richard Rush to be supported for the office of Vice President."
