Full Text
A Good Preacher Too.
Judge Burnes, of our circuit court, is not only an ideal judge in the opinion of The Sentinel, but we are now led to believe that he would make a splendid preacher, from the following item, which appeared in the Platte City Landmark, last week:
"Last Sunday found Platte City without a regular preacher, but as the union services in the court yard had been announced, the committee decided to have a laymen's meeting, and finally prevailed upon Judge Burnes to take the preacher's place, and do the best he could. The committee made no mistake, for it is generally agreed that one of the strongest, most forceful sermons was delivered that has been heard in Platte City for some time. The Judge took as a text the story of the young lawyer and from it drew a lesson of vital import, not alone to the legal profession, but to every person within his hearing. It was a splendid effort and those who were absent are now regretting, as the reports of the meeting come to them. The music, as usual, was good, and the attendance large, but many were scared away by the threatening clouds."
