To Negroes Stresses
CIO's 'Equality' Stand

CHICAGO - (ANP) - The late Sidney Hillman, head of the CIO's Political Action committee until his untimely death in July, has left a message to all Negroes in his article "Labor is Fairer Than Business to Negroes" which he wrote for the September issue of Negro Digest.

"The CIO recognizes that the problem of Negro workers is identical with the problem of all workers, of whatever race," states the article which was prepared by Hillman shortly before his sudden passing.

"The CIO does not think on terms of 'fairness'," the article continues. "Fairness carries with it a patronizing connotation.

"The CIO thinks in terms of 'equality'."

Mr. Hillman's militant message forms part of the round table discussion of the subject "Is Business or Labor Fairer to the Negro?" in which Phil Hanna, Chicago business columnist, states vast majority of both major parties in Oregon are unalterably opposed to such discriminatory practices as that practiced at Blue Lake park."

Nick Welsh, park manager, said the park's policy always has been that "we will not accept colored people." We figure the park is not big enough to mix colors; it might put us out of business. We have no personal feeling of animosity toward Negroes.
