Springtown Pilot.
The election is over and our people have gained the victory. We deem it unnecessary to give the result in figures. Our people have turned their attention to more important matters of the day, and for the best interests of each and every individual in this section of the country. The charter for the Northwestern railroad through this section has been granted. The people of this county need it and will give it a liberal patronage. There is not a railroad line in the state that will pay better dividends on the money invested than the proposed line through this section. There are but few acres of land in a radius of ten or fifteen miles of Springtown that are not productive and yield abundant crops. What business has a railroad through a country where there is nothing? We say, nothing. Therefore, we say (and speak the sentiments of our whole people), that a railroad through this country will be a good investment. We have the agricultural lands; we have the water; we have the timber, and from what we have been informed, a few miles west of us coal has been discovered. But whether we have the coal or not we have all the other advantages to make a rich agricultural district, and without agriculture what is a country worth? We have an industrious class of farmers who labor hard every year, and for one to pass through our section the improvements will show it. With this class of citizens we are confident of the success of a road through this country. The country west of us is equally as good, besides it is a better stock country. Our people are all comparatively poor, this being a new country, but are in for the progression of the country, and are willing to do all in their power to push it forward. Artesian water can be had in abundance, which is the best we have tasted since in the state. We have several flowing wells that are not more than seventy-five to 120 feet deep. We also have plenty of timber, both of which are advantageous to railroads, and without either a railroad can do nothing. The committee appointed at the meeting Monday night will visit Fort Worth and write the leading citizens. They are better acquainted with the country than we are, having lived here many years, and by their industry and progressive energies have built up one of the most beautiful inland towns in the state, and all they now ask is a railroad to make it one of the leading business centers.
