Full Text

Fire Alarm on Randall's Island.

There was a practical test last evening of the efficiency of the fire drill in the House of Refuge on Randall's Island when a blaze was discovered in the airshaft in the centre of the main building. All of the inmates responded to the fire call and marched out in good order. Although an alarm was sent out and 16 Engine, on East Twenty-fifth street, went to the foot of East Twenty-sixth street to take the Island ferry, its services were not needed, as the fire was a small one. It was extinguished by the attendants of the institution.
