On the 20th October, the brig Eliza, Capt. Israel, sailed from the Havannah; on his sailing, Mr. Booth, a merchant, of that place informed Capt. I. that a fleet of the line, with 4 frigates and a number of transports, having 20,000 troops on board, had captured Trinidad and Surinam, and were going on to take Jamaica, and that in consequence of this news, flour had risen from 10 to 15 dollars per barrel. rel.
He also informs, that two days before he sailed, the Thunderer, a British ship of 74 guns appeared off the Moro castle in a flag, requesting the governor to permit him to go into that port to refit, as the ship was at that time making 58 inches water per hour. The Governor answered that as he had sunk two Spanish vessels, he might sink also but before sinking, to let him know, and that he would send out and save the souls on board—Nothing more was heard of the ship.
