PORTSMOUTH.

The following is published for the Consideration of those who are concerned in the Christian Religion.

July 1764: One Mr. Fesenden was hired to preach in Dunstable in New-Hampshire, on Probation--In his preaching he declared that the Gospel had its Foundation laid in the Religion of Nature; and that we were not required to believe any Thing that our Reason could not comprehend; and that Faith was GOD's Work and our Work; and that Righteousness and Temperance were two parts of Faith.-- A Meeting was called to see if the Town would settle said Preacher, and 26 voted for it, and 22 against it: A Vote in the Church could not be obtained to choose him. By this the World may see the Matter of Contention in Dunstable about Religion, and the Reason why a Minister is not settled there.
