CORNER
by HLT
The Quincy Junior Chamber of Commerce has established its Primary purpose as leadership training for all members through Civic Improvement Programs.
It offers every young man, from 21 through 35 years of age, the following advantages: A voice in Community affairs, offers you a practical leadership development course not available in any University or college in the world, gives you social and recreational activities with men of your own age and gives you the chance to help improve your community.
The Jaycees continues to grow and has Chapters in 80 foreign nations with almost one half million members. JayCee International is one world organization operating without selfish motivation; interested only in giving young men the chance to better their communities and themselves. We are a democratic group controlled by the membership and every member, in good standing, is entitled to vote for officers. on resolutions and all business of the local chapter. The Board of Directors handles the finances, selects the activities and is responsible to the members for a good administration.
Experience in JayCeeism can help you, no matter what your job. You work with other young men for a common purpose, you receive a sense of civic consciousness that is gained by service to your community, you contact top business and civic leaders, you solidify friendships with young men who will some day be the leaders of your community, and you learn to think on an administrative level - a requisite to promotion in any modern day business. Members of the Junior Chamber of Commerce also have a chance to make mistakes outside of their business or job and learn to supervise other young men on a Volunteer basis which makes supervising men for pay seem easy.
Yes, we are a "Doers" organization and no matter what your interests are - Safety, Sports, youth activities, Civic affairs, public affairs, or something else, there is an active committee awaiting you.
The Quincy Jaycees need several new members at once to put the club back on a par with previous administrations. We need more active members from the current members as well. Officers and Directors cannot carry the load. Let's look at The Jaycee Creed, which is as follows: We believe; That faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life; that the brotherhood of man transcends the sovereignty of nations; that economic justice can best be won by free men through free enterprise: That government should be of laws rather than of men: That earth's great treasures lies in human personality and that service to humanity is the best work of life.
Look for this corner next week and perhaps we will have some advance information on the annual Jaycees Tobacco Bowl Football game which will be played on Friday night Dec. 1, 1961. What if Quincy and Florida High can be coerced to meet again? Things could be quite differently than before, don't you think?
If you know a better place in which to live, why not move out of Gadsden County and settle down in peace?
