Southington, July 24, 1854.
MR. EDITOR: At a meeting of Mechanics Union Division, No. 26, Sons of Temperance, held July 19th, the following resolutions were brought forward and unanimously adopted:
Whereas, the Legislature of Connecticut, have by their united wisdom, enacted a law, entitled "an Act for the Suppression of Intemperance," and whereas, said act is, as we believe, entitled to, and demands the earnest support of all lovers of order and justice throughout our entire State. Therefore—
Resolved, That Mechanics Union Division, No. 26, S. of T., do heartily approve of said law, and sincerely thank our Legislature for carrying out what we believe to be the wisdom of the people of our State.
Resolved, That we will use our earnest endeavors to see that the several provisions of said act are strictly complied with, and the law duly enforced so far as we have it in our power so to do.
Resolved, That whenever a brother is satisfied that any person or persons have violated said law, he shall report the same immediately to the Division, or take such measures as he thinks proper to bring them to justice.
Resolved, That we pledge fidelity to each other, faithfully to discharge our duty to ourselves and our fellow men.
Resolved, That the R. S., be instructed to forward a copy of these resolutions to the Maine Law Advocate, and the Connecticut Union, for publication.
