Full Text

When the Potter committee are ready for work, if they will send for Major James M. Beardsley, of Rock Island, he may be able to tell them of some interviews he had with the Secretary—then Senator Sherman, and what he was instructed to promise the Packard-Pitkins combination if the state of Louisiana was counted for Hayes.—Ia. State Reg.

It won't do. Our Major has quietly withdrawn from politics for a season and is practicing law. He has got entirely over the 'visiting statesman' business, and as the Major is really a clever gentleman and don't desire to mingle any more in politics, he has forgotten all about that visit. It wouldn't do any good to call him—he don't recollect—he is entirely oblivious to the whole thing.
