Ezzard Charles Is Impatient To Don Gloves Again
CINCINNATI, OHIO (SNS) Ezzard Charles, who won the NBA's version of the world's heavyweight title a year ago, is impatient for ring action. The tall Negro puncher was sidelined by physician several months ago because of a heart condition and ordered to take a long rest.
"I am feeling too good to be idle," Charles told a reporter. "I have been doing little but taking long walks to keep my legs in condition, but I want to get back in the ring. I haven't been examined by a doctor for a long time, but I feel I know that I will pass the next examination."
Charles looks fit. He said he weighs about 180 pounds—just about his fighting weight.
The Cincinnati heavyweight won the NBA championship by outpointing Joe Walcott in 15 rounds in Chicago. Walcott has been clamoring for a return bout.
