Funeral services for a 26-year-old Atlanta man who died of a bullet wound in the back on Christmas Eve night, will be held Monday at 2 p. m., at Ivey Brothers Funeral Home.
Homicide Detectives H. E. Burdett and J. W. Ellington identified the victim as Thomas Lewis, of 415 Whitehall Terrace, S. W., who was shot around 9 p. m., Wednesday and pronounced "dead at the scene."
Detectives Burdett and Ellington also reported that Willie Smith, 38, of 650 Ira Street, S. W., was arrested Friday in connection with the slaying.
The officers interviewed Mrs. Eunice Harper, aunt of the victim, also of 415 Whitehall Terrace, S. W., and quoted her as saying Smith and Mattie Mae Stemerich of a Fortress Avenue address came by her "house and got into an argument."
She also told the officers that Lewis, her nephew, "put them out of the house." Then according to Detectives Burdett and Ellington, after Smith was in the yard he fired one shot at the victim which struck him in small part of the back near the kidney region.
Immediately after the slaying Mattie Mae Stemerich was booked as a "material witness."
