Nearly a Ton of Salmon.

Newport R. I., July 16.—Eighteen hundred and sixty-nine pounds of salmon caught without assistance in three weeks and a half is the record that James J. Van Alen has returned with, from his annual fishing expedition. Mr. Van Alen spent five weeks in Canada and three weeks and a half of this time was passed on the Cascapedia river. The salmon were running well, and Mr. Van Alen was able alone to catch nearly a ton of the fish. The only assistance he had was when he hooked a large fish his guide would help to land him.
