Sheriff: Oppose Anti-Lynch Bill
Not long ago the members of the National Sheriffs' Association held a convention in Detroit. While here they passed a resolution opposing the anti-lynching bill now before the U. S. Senate.
The measure, sponsored by Senator Homer Ferguson (R) Mich., provides a $5,000 fine and five years in prison for sheriffs who fail to protect a prisoner from a lynching mob.
This act by elective officials is a disgrace to the American people. We wonder how our local Wayne County Sheriff and others in Michigan voted on the resolution. If any of these representatives of law and order do not want to enforce the law and protect their prisoners they should resign from office. Lynching is a blot on American justice and should be outlawed from the American scene.
Show these small public officials who voted for the resolution that you do not agree with them by writing to your representatives in Congress and urge that they pass the Ferguson Anti-Lynching bill.
