ATTEMPTED RIOT.

At Providence, Rhode Island, on Monday night last, about 12 o'clock, a company of forty or fifty young men of that city attempted to create a disturbance among the Irish, by making an attack upon their houses, with threats to burn one of them. News of this coming to the city marshal, he immediately, accompanied by a strong body of the city watch, dispersed the mob, and arrested several of the ringleaders. The motive for these riotous proceedings was presumed to be a savage attack made late on Saturday night, by two men whom their speech betrayed as Irishmen, upon a Mr. Gilman, as he was going home from his store.
