As there is to be a Convention in the county of Rockingham for the purpose of nominating the county candidates for the approaching election, and as there was no nomination of a candidate for Governor by the Legislature, I trust the Convention will nominate or recommend some person as a candidate for Governor.

I am aware that the present incumbent may be considered a candidate, but I think there ought to be a nomination by the people by conventions. The people were disposed last year to express their disapprobation of the conduct of Governor WOODBURY, and Mr. MORRIL being the person nominated, they voted for him in preference to Mr. Woodbury. Mr. Morril could not have been elected at any other time, and it is doubtful whether he can be again elected. If the people are inclined to choose Representatives and Senators for the ensuing Legislature, whose political integrity cannot be doubted, I presume they will be equally so to elect such a Governor; and if those republican Representatives and Senators, who combined with federalists in the election of a Senator to Congress, are not worthy of the confidence of the republicans, Governor Morril is much less worthy, as he was a strong advocate for Mr. Mason's election.

For several years the republicans have been very remiss in all the elections; but now they are excited and alarmed by the intrigues between the federalists and the mongrels, and will unite heart and hand in opposition to the mongrel and federal factions combined. As the Governor has favored the connection between the federalists and some of the republicans, and seems to have preferred the half bloods, I am willing he should share the same fate of other deserters

The republicans in the county of Hillsborough are desirous of having a republican of the old stamp for our next Governor, and will unanimously, I believe, support Gen. BENJAMIN PIERCE for that office. He was a republican in "the times that tried men's souls," and fought the battles of our revolution. He was a fellow-soldier with General LAFAYETTE; and it must be gratifying to the people of this State to have Gen. Pierce in the Chair, when Gen. LAFAYETTE shall visit the Legislature next June.
