Full Text

On the late EMPEROR of Russia.

In this great Monarch's Fate you see
Th' extreamest human Bliss, and Misery.
Behold him of the largest Empire Lord !
Nations attentive to his awful Word !
Behold him on the glorious Summit stand !
Holding Europa's Ballance in his Hand !
Possess'd too of that Gem, a beauteous Bride
What could he wish for in the World beside?
Behold him then, in one sad fatal Hour,
Cast from this lofty Pinnacle of Pow'r.
Dethron'd, imprison'd, and, alas ! 'tis said.
Of a strong Hemorrhoidal Colic dead!
Who now could envy such exalted State.
Or deem those only happy, that are great ?
Who now would covet such high Lot in Life,
Or wish for such a Female for his Wife ?
