PROF. SILLIMAN.—Among the distinguished visitors at Ottawa during the present week is Professor Silliman, of Yale College, New Haven. He comes here at the instance of the Ottawa Mineral-Spring Company, to make a complete and exhaustive analysis of the water. Of course, to make such an analysis, it was necessary that the Professor should make certain tests of the water at the fountain head, though to make the analysis in detail it will be necessary to convey a barrel or two of the water to his fully equipped chemical laboratory at New Haven; so that it will take several weeks yet before the analysis the Professor proposes to make will be completed and ready for publication. The Professor, however, is understood to express confidence in the medicinal value of the water, and thinks, to use a homely phrase (not his,) that the company have a "good thing."

The Professor is an exceedingly genial, affable, sociable gentleman, and while no pains are spared on the part of our citizens to make his sojourn among us agreeable, he more than repays every attention by the pleasure his sprightly presence diffuses around him.
