HIGH-WAY ROBBERS.
The citizens would do well to be vigilant in detecting the above troublesome set of gentlemen, of whom, it is shrewdly conjectured, many are now frolicking in this city, watching the motions of those, in particular, whose fobs and pockets are richly decorated.
We are informed, that two gentlemen were stopped by two foot pads, dressed in sailors habits, on Tuesday evening last, not later than nine o'clock, as they were walking near the mall in Broad Way.
It is also said, that a woman was knocked down earlier in the evening, near Golden-Hill; and that a vessel, near New-Slip, within a few days, has been robbed of 60 or 70 dollars.
Whatever may be the superior rate of HONOR which the highway-robber arrogates over the midnight assassin, it certainly becomes the serious duty of every police officer, more especially of the city watch, for the safety of the inhabitants, to be unwearied, in their several stations, in watching the motions of night-walkers, that such banes to the common peace may be stopped in their mad career.
