Urged To Attend
Event In Lexington
Holmes county's beautiful new $45,000 health center building in Lexington will be dedicated next Friday, October 14, in an elaborate ceremony at 2:00 p.m. in the afternoon following a parade which will be participated in by state, county and city officials, the Lexington, and Holmes Junior college bands, civic clubs of Lexington and the National Guard.
Citizens of Durant and vicinity are given a special invitation to attend the event which is expected to draw a record crowd from all over the entire county.
The entire program for the day is being planned and sponsored by the Lexington Business and Professional women's club in co-operation with Dr. W. H. Weeks, director of the Holmes County Health department and other interested officers of the Holmes County Health department.
Open To All
Mrs. J. R. Watson, president of the Lexington BPW club, said that any civic organization in the county or any business firm that wants to enter a float in the parade which has been scheduled for 1:00 p.m. preceding the dedication service, is invited to enter.
Dr. Ricks Present
Dr. H. C. Ricks, head of the State Hygienic laboratory of the State Board of health, will be present representing the State board.
Dr. Felix J. Underwood will be unable to be present due to the fact that he will be out of the state at this time.
Dr. Weeks will serve as master of ceremonies and members of the BPW club will serve as hostesses at the Health Center for the open house to be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
The Center was started on June 1st and has just been completed. It is one of the finest buildings of its kind in the country and will house the entire county health department and all its services.
Lexington stores will be closed from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. for the dedication service.
Organizations which have been invited and have indicated they will decorate floats for the parade are the Rotary Club, BPW Club, Chamber of Commerce, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Lexington Country club, Lexington Garden Club, VFW and Auxiliary. American Legion and Auxiliary, Lexington Agricultural Development Association, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.
Saturday For Colored
On Saturday afternoon, October 15, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. open house at the Health Center will be held for all the colored citizens of Holmes county who are given a cordial invitation to come by and see the new building.
