Full Text

The friends of the South Western Rail Road had a large meeting in Richmond, on Saturday night last. No little jealousy is felt and expressed, lest Alexandria should interfere with Richmond, in the benefits expected to be derived from this, and other works of internal improvement. It is a narrow and contracted policy, which looks to Richmond alone. When the trade of the West, and the South West, is once opened to the sea board, there will be, we hope, enough for all. At any rate, it is useless for Richmond to expect that she can swallow everything, from all quarters, and leave nothing for the enterprise of other places. Alexandria has advantages as a commercial port, which nature has denied to Richmond, and, the advantages of which we ought to reap.
