POETRY.
For the Morning Star,
Original Dedication Hymn.
Lord Jehovah, God incarnate,
From thy mercy seat look down
May this house, that's here erected
Echo to thy great renown.
Gracious Lord, we, here assembled,
Dedicate this fane to Thee,
But without thy gracious presence,
Vain will our devotions be;
Fill it, therefore, with thy glory
As thou didst the temple fill,
Fill our hearts, too, with thy spirit,
That we learn and do thy will.
Make this temple, Lord, thy dwelling
Where thy saints may meet with Thee;
Where, by hundreds and by thousands,
Sinners shall converted be.
Here may unborn generations,
Thy pure gospel loud proclaim;
And, till time shall be no longer,
Chant the great Messiah's name.
Lord, when our probation endeth,
And we quit this house of clay
May we, in thy House celestial,
Reign with thee in endless day.
There with rapture view thy Person,
And with saints in glory raise
A melodious, ceaseless pean
To thy just, exalted praise.
Rusticus Agricola.
Mendon, Mass. Sept. 1841.
