DENVER & RIO GRANDE NO. 6 COLLIDES WITH FREIGHT
BUT NO LIVES WERE LOST

Leadville, Colo., Jan. 19.—East-bound Denver & Rio Grande passenger train No. 6, which passed through Grand Junction early last night, collided with a freight train on a siding on Tennessee Pass, at a point about 8 miles west of Leadville at 6:30 a.m. today. No. 6 was running three hours late. It had just emerged from the tunnel when the collision occurred. Neither train was running very rapidly and thus a wreck that would have cost a great many lives was avoided. Both engines and a number of cars were badly wrecked but all the trainmen and passengers escaped unhurt save from bruises and shock. Traffic was delayed many hours. Owing to the nature of the accident the fact that no fatalities resulted is remarkable. The cause of the collision is not announced.
