SHOCKING MURDER.

It is with the most painful feelings that we find it our duty to place upon record another crime of the most aggravated character, committed within this county—the murder of a son by his father.

On Monday evening last, between the hours of eight and nine, in consequence of an alarm given by a black woman, the neighbors of Daniel Stone, of Oakham, hastened to his house, and found his son, Moses Stone, a young man aged 23, weltering in his blood in the last agonies of death. The account of the transaction given by the black woman is, that early in the evening the old man took a blanket from the bed and carried it to a cooper's shop, near the house, saying he was going to fix a butter firkin; that the young man soon after went to the shop, and returned to the house with the blanket. Afterwards, between the hours of 8 and 9, the young man, accompanied by the black woman, went to the shop to induce his father to return to the house. When they came to the shop, the young man stepped in, on which his father, who was lying down, raised himself, with something in his hand, which the woman supposed was a club, and she cautioned the young man not to let him strike him. She had but just spoken, when a musket was discharged, and the contents were lodged in the abdomen of the young man, who immediately fell, exclaiming, "Good God, you have killed me" -which were the last words he spoke. The old man instantly fled, and yesterday noon, nothing had been heard of him.

Daniel Stone, the perpetrator of this deed, is a man sixty years old, about five feet ten inches high, dark complexioned, with grey hair. His voice is coarse and gruff. He was coarsely clad, having on a dark brown great coat which had been cut off about the knees, and butternut coloured pantaloons. He took his gun with him. It is supposed he has directed his course towards Vermont, or the lower part of Maine, where some of his connexions reside. It is hoped that, wherever he may be seen, measures may be taken to arrest him, and bring him to justice.

Wednesday morning, 9 o'clock. Stone has been arrested in Grafton, and just passed our office on his way to prison.—Mass. Spy
