Full Text

On Thursday last a Person who call'd himself Chamberlain, came to Messieurs Levy and Franks, Merchants of this City, with a forg'd Order for 200 Pistoles, which he pretended was drawn by Mr. Wardrop, Merchant in Maryland. But they observing a Mistake in spelling his Name, suspected the Forgery, and took the Sharper before a Magistrate, who after Examination committed him to Prison. He had also some forg'd Bills of Exchange with him for considerable Sums, which he propos'd to sell here.---He appears a very young Man, and 'tis said is a Native of Maryland, his Name not Chamberlain, but of a reputable Family there. No doubt he has had the Advantage of being improv'd by the Conversation of some of those Gentry, who are sent over for the IMPROVEMENT and WELL PEOPLING of the Colonies.
